I write business software and I also look after the servers it runs on. Doing both changes how I build. When the person who wrote the app is the one restarting the machine, you start building with the next failure in mind.

A lot of my work sits between systems: payment gateways, ERPs, databases, internal applications and the reports people actually use. That's probably the part of software I enjoy most. Getting all those pieces to agree is usually harder than writing the individual pieces.

Lately I have been finding out how much an LLM can do on hardware nobody bought for it, and how to turn that into something useful in the real world.
